Logging In

Logging In

This guide describes how to authenticate into your department’s Drupal site. Mississippi State University uses CAS (Central Authentication Service) and Duo two-factor authentication to protect editorial access.

Prerequisites

  • University credentials: You must have an active NetID and NetPassword.

  • Duo Mobile: Ensure your device is registered with Duo and available when you log in. Visit 2fa.msstate.edu for setup help.

  • Permissions: Access is limited to authorized personnel. If you cannot log in after CAS and Duo succeed, contact your site administrator to verify your editor role on this subdomain.

Step 1: Navigate to the login URL

To access the administrative dashboard, open your site’s login path in a web browser:

https://your-subdomain.msstate.edu/user/login

Note: You can also use /admin to be redirected through CAS automatically. Using /user/login is the direct method to start CAS authentication.

Step 2: CAS authentication

Once the page loads, you will be redirected to the MSU CAS login screen.

  1. Enter your NetID.

  2. Enter your NetPassword.

  3. Click Log in.

Step 3: Duo two-factor authentication

After entering your credentials, the Duo prompt will appear.

  1. Select your preferred method (for example, Duo Push or Passcode).

  2. Approve the request on your registered mobile device.

Step 4: Accessing the dashboard

Upon successful authentication, Drupal redirects you back to your site. The Admin Toolbar should appear at the top of the browser window, indicating an authenticated session. If needed, go to /admin or Content (/admin/content) to manage pages.

Troubleshooting

  • Authentication loop: If you return to the login screen without an error message, clear your browser cache and cookies, then restart the browser or try a private window.

  • Access denied: If you log in successfully but see “Access denied,” your NetID may not yet have an editor role for this subdomain.

  • Duo issues: If you replaced your device or are not receiving pushes, visit the ITS Duo Management page.
